Donald (1899-1918) was the son of Norman Macleod and Christina Campbell; the family were cottars at 53 North Tolsta.
When he was 16 years old he falsified his age and joined the served with the 2nd Battalion of the Seaforth Highlanders. He served briefly in France before being sent home when his age was discovered. His father insisted he re-enlist as soon as he was 18 years old and he was killed in action shortly after. More information can be found at the North Tolsta Historical Society World War One website.
