95411: Donald Maciver
Donald (1931-1952) was the son of Angus Maciver and Mary Ann Graham of Stornoway.
Donald was a vanboy with the Co-op before joining, first the Seaforth Highlanders and then transferring to the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders. He was a Bren gun carrier driver and was ambushed and killed by a sniper near the Sweetwater Canal in Tel-el-Kebir, Egypt, along with his commanding officer, Major Pringle-Pattison; he is buried in Moascar Cemetery. It was in 2002 that the government finally decided to recognise the service of those who served in Egypt with the Suez Canal Zone medal.
