Donald (1840-1892) was a son of Alexander Smith and Margaret Maciver, 15 Old Gravir. His father died in 1842 and the family moved to 22 Gravir in 1852. His mother was allocated the new croft at 43 Gravir in the 1870s.
In Lochs, on December 4, 1873, he married Margaret Mackenzie, 5 Cromore. Donald and Margaret had a son, Donald (1874-1875) and mother and son both died.
At Stornoway, in 1876, he married Ann Mackenzie, 14 Aird, Point. Donald and Ann settled at 43 Gravir and they had three children.
