44868: Marvig in 1953

According to a 1953 report, the situation in the village of Marvig at the time was as follows:

There is but one (motor) boat pursuing the herring fishing from Marvig and Calbost combined and one boat engaged in lobster fishing.

Marvig and Calbost children attend Planasker (Marvig) School where the roll is 11 pupils. There was a headmaster and assistant but this year, the headmaster and senior pupils (2) have been transferred to Cromore P. School and the female assistant left in charge of Planasker School.

All the families belong to the Gravir Free Church. There is a Free Church mission hut in the village.

There are 24 head of cattle and 900 sheep. Number of crofts – 23. Number of houses – 36. Those with two rooms, 10; three rooms, 3; four rooms, 10; five rooms, 11; six rooms, 2.

Population – 106.
