Donald, according to his son Donald's deposition (Boundary dispute), was a son of Dugald Macaulay of Brenish. We do not know why a Macaulay from Lewis should become a gamekeeper in Harris - maybe it was a case of poacher turned gamekeeper - but his son Donald succeeded him as sub-forester.
