74897: Isle of Boreray, North Uist
Eilean Boraraigh; Boirearaigh
Boreray is a small island, just 1.5 miles long by one mile wide. Its highest point is Mullach Mòr, which reaches a height of 56m. Loch Mòr lies in the central part, separated from the Atlantic by a shingle bar. On the east coast is a sandy beach.
Inhabited since prehistoric times, the island was crofted until 1923, when the last islanders left. One family returned, eventually leaving in the 1960s. Now the population numbers just one.
Not to be confused with Boreray, St Kilda.
