Murdo (1801-1874) was a son of Donald Macdonald and Mary Maciver, Scapraid, Lewis. The family moved to a croft at 8 Swordale.

He married Catherine Maciver, 40 Breasclete. The couple settled at 8 Swordale and in the 1857 re-lotting the family obtained 2 Swordale. Murdo and Catherine had eight children.
