Norman (1903-1940) was a son of Murdo Maclean and Kirsty Macleod, 12 Swainbost.
In 1926, he married Marion Smith of Bayble, Point. Norman and Marion lived at 6 Coulregrein, 4 Steinish and later at 3 Maryhill in a house Norman built. The couple had five children.
On 23rd November 1927 Norman enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve under Service Number AX14196 and re-enrolled under BX8906 and CX7681. His record states that he was 5ft 8in tall, with fair hair, grey eyes, a fresh complexion and a ragged scar below his ear. He was a fisherman on Banff and Stornoway Registered Fishing Boats including SY42, SY47, SY49 and SY147 Maria Stella.
Norman was Mobilised on 29 August 1938 and served on Royal Naval Patrol Service. He was based at HMS Pembroke X and HMS Watchful and served aboard HMS Calliope and HMT Renovia. He died aged 36 of wounds aboard HMT Renovia. Norman is buried in Haslar Royal Naval Cemetery. Gosport and his name is commemorated on Stornoway War Memorial.
