Domhnall Uisdein

Donald (1885-1916) was a son of Hugh Stewart and Henrietta Stewart, Upper Shader. They were of a Highland Traveller family who were generally from the northeast of Scotland. He was born in Upper Shader. In 1899 Donald joined the Gordon Highlanders Service Number 3/3598.

Donald and Johanna met c1903 and they settled in Aberdeen. The couple had seven children and in 1914 before Donald served in the First World War, they married.

Donald served in the First World War and was killed in action in Belgium. His name is commemorated on the Ypres, Menin Gate Memorial.
