26279: Angus Macleod

Angus (1880-1916)  was a son of Donald Macleod and Annie Macleod, 2 Crulivig. The family later moved to 5 Lundale.

As a young man he moved to Glasgow, and at Govan, in 1907, he married Christina Macdonald from 4 Kneep. Angus and Christina lived in Glasgow and they had five of a family.

Angus served as Lance Corporal with the Seaforth Highlanders during the First World War under Service Number S/7378. He was killed in action in the Battle of Arras, France and is buried in Sailly-Saillisel Cemetery, Grave IV C 2.

His name is commemorated on the Lewis War Memorial, Stornoway and the Great Bernera War Memorial.
