9626: Donald Munro

Donald (1780-1862) was a son of Norman Munro and Christina Macaskill. The family were originally from the Isle of Berneray and came to North Harris to graze their horses. He was born at Eilean Anabaich, Isle of Harris. Donald was a Drover and Shepherd and worked on the Shiant Islands, Eilean Anabaich, Frith na Hearadh near Cliasmol, Molinginish and the villages of Pairc.
Donald married Mary Mackinnon from Harris and they settled on the Shiant Islands. The couple had nine children and latterly lived at Eilean Anabaich with their daughter Margaret's family.
Donald was widowed in 1860 and died in Molinginish two years later.
