The SS Cardiganshire was a Steam Cargo Ship built by Workman Clarke & Co, Belfast in 1913 for the Royal Mail Steam Packet Co, London.

The ship was requisitioned by the Admiralty from 1914-1918, returned to the Royal Mail Steam Packet Co. 1918-1929 and was sold to Salveson Christian and renamed SS Salvestria from 1920-1940.

The SS Cardiganshire was a Troopship in the First World War and was a Whaling Ship at the time of her sinking. On July 27, 1940 she was mined and sunk off Inchkeith Lighthouse with the loss of 10 crew.
