114928: 22a Tolsta Chaolais

John Macleod (b1796) was a tenant on 22/23 Tolsta Chaolais until he emigrated with his wife and family to Bruce County, Ontario in 1851.

The croft passed to John Young (1789-1877), Strom and was divided between himself (No 22a); his son Angus Young (No 22b) and his son-in-law Angus Macleod (No 23)

On the death of John Young in 1877, the croft was further split between his widow Ann (No 22a) and his son Angus (No 22b).  Widow Ann Mackay gave up the croft to her nephew-in-law, Duncan Mackenzie, 15 Garenin but remained on the croft as a cottar.

The croft still remains in the Mackenzie family.
