Mary MacRae, born in 1883, was daughter of Andrew MacRae and Marion MacCuish of North Glendale, South Uist. Mary and her sister Peggy became good friends of Margaret Fay Shaw, and supplied her with several songs for the book Folksongs and Folklore of South Uist.
Several of Mary’s recordings are available on the Tobar an Dualchais website. A convenient way to access them is through her biography page.
Details of the MacRae sisters’ relationship with Margaret can be found on the Kildonan Museum website.
