109029: Allan MacDonald

Allan MacDonald was the son of Sir Alexander MacDonald of Kingsburgh. Allan held the tack of Flodigarry and married Flora MacDonald of Milton in 1750 when she returned from her imprisonment in the Tower of London, having helped Bonnie Prince Charlie escape government forces.

The couple made their home in Flodigarry until his father’s death in 1772, when they moved to Kingsburgh. There they met Samuel Johnson and James Boswell in 1773.

They sailed to America, where Allan fought in the American War of Independence. The couple returned to Scotland in 1779, living for a while at Milton and Daliburgh, before returning to Kingsburgh.
