Rev Donald Martin was a son of John Macdonald and Marion Martin, 18 Crowlista. He entered the ministry and became a minister in the Free Church, Ness, staying in the Free Church Manse. Rev Donald Martin was unmarried. His widowed mother Marion Martin stayed with him in the manse as did his niece Mary MacLeod.

In 1900, Rev Donald Martin joined the United Free Church and in 1929 the Church of Scotland. He died in 1937.
