114882: Roderick Mackenzie

Roderick (1845-1875) was the son of Colin Mackenzie of Lochcarron.

In 1872 Roderick worked for the Edinburgh Ladies Highland Association and taught at Sgoil na Leddies, North Tolsta and lived at the Schoolhouse, North Tolsta. He taught there until his death in 1975. The men of the village showed their respect by carrying his coffin, in a winter storm, to Stornoway from where his remains were taken to Lochcarron, where his widowed mother lived.
