118726: Donald Nicolson

Donald (1778-1862) was a son of John Nicolson and Ann Smith; it is not clear where the family were living at the time of his birth.

Donald married Gormelia Murray, but it is not clear where the couple initially settled or where their first two children were born. Donald’s name appears on the subtenants list of Ulbost in 1807; it is possible the couple had their next three children there.

At some point Donald’s parents obtained 16 Old Melbost, Borve. In due course this passed to Donald and he and Gormelia had a further three children there. In total they had eight children: five girls and three boys.

In 1853 the family moved to 46 Borve.
