Mary Macinnes

Mary Macinnes (1858-1917) daughter of John Macinnes and Mary Mackinnon, Tarbert, Isle of Harris had gone into service at an early age with a Mr Pirie, whose official work took him to Bohemia in Central Europe. After a number of years there, ill health forced her to return to Harris. On one occasion, a ship was wrecked off the coast of Harris and some members of the crew were from Bohemia. Because of her fluency in the language, Mary was used as an official interpreter by the Procurator Fiscal in the case.
