36299: Elizabeth Mackenzie

Elizabeth (born 1843) was a daughter of John Mackenzie, Eighth of Ballone, of South Beach, Stornoway, and Mary Macphee of Greenock; Elizabeth was born in Greenock.

After her parents both died young, Elizabeth and her brother and sister were raised by John’s sister Margaret Mackenzie and Margaret’s husband Alexander Macleod, at Valtos. In 1664 at Valtos Elizabeth married Angus Macdonald, whose roots were in Stornoway and possibly Applecross.

Because Elizabeth and her siblings all died young, her father John’s title passed to the only son of his uncle Hector, John Tolmie Mackenzie, who became the Ninth of Ballone.
