5642: Peter Mackay Macrae

Peter Mackay Macrae (1886-1917) was a son of Farquhar Macrae and Annabella Mackay, Keose Manse. He joined the 9th Battalion, Border Regiment with his brother Duncan Macrae at the beginning of the First World War. They both became sergeants and both were badly wounded. They were recommended together for commissions for services in the field. Peter served as 2nd Lieutenant in the 7th Battalion, Northampton Regiment. He was attached to the 129th Field Company, Royal Engineers when he was killed in action at the Somme.
