John was a son of Malcolm and Ann nee Mackay who relocated from Valtos to Crowlista c1773. He was married to Catherine nee Maclean and had one child Catherine ‘Catriona Og’ who was married to John Macaulay ‘Iain mac Thormoid’ an old soldier from Crowlista.

John supposedly died at Garynahine on a trip to Stornoway.
