Marion, born about 1824, was the daughter of John MacAskill and Mary Morrison of Lag a' Chealla. Marion married Neil MacLeod, with whom she was to have at least four children, living on a croft in Borve.   

However in 1854 the crofts were cleared to make way for Borve Farm and the family became cottars. In  August 1855 they left Plymouth, sailing to Australia on the Royal Albert. Their daughter Julia died during the voyage.
