Finlay MacKay, from 5 Kyles Scalpay, was born in 1821, the son of Alexander MacKay and Margaret Campbell. It seems likely that he was the fisherman of that name staying at 14 Ruisgarry (Trealigarry) in 1871, because the following year he married Rachel MacLean who lived nearby. He is described as a labourer in the marriage register.
