Rebecca, otherwise Betsy, was born in 1878, the youngest child of Duncan MacAskill and Effie MacLeod, cottars on 11/12 Ruisgarry (Quay). The family moved to 7 Borve, which her father obtained in 1900.
Betsy became a domestic servant and in 1907 married Donald John MacLeod of 16 Ruisgarry (Brusda), which is where they made their home. They had four sons together.
