Catherine (1878-1962) was the daughter of Alexander Smith and Mary Maciver. The family were cottars at 24 North Tolsta.
Catherine married John Beaton, of 51 Back. The couple settled at 51 Back and had seven children: four boys and three girls.
In due course 51 Back passed to their eldest son.
