121728: Stornoway Poorhouse
Stornoway Poorhouse, the Lewis Combination Poorhouse was built in 1895 by James M. Thomson of Edinburgh. [Sources: Scottish Record Office, plans, RHP 30866/1‑19.]
It was located on Coulregrein Road, which is where Westview Terrace is now.
In 1930 the Poor Law was abolished and the Stornoway Poorhouse changed its name to Coulregrein House which mainly cared for the elderly.
