Between 1846 and 1850 the land that had previously been known as 19/20 Aird Tong was made into two crofts. The first tenant of 20 Aird Tong was John Thomson (1811-1884) from 7 Aird Tong and he passed the croft to his son-in-law, Angus Smith from Tong. He passed 20 Aird Tong to his daughter Effie Smith and she passed it to her sister, Christina Mary.
