64416: 2 Borve, Berneray
2 Borve was created in 1900, when the Congested Districts Board for Scotland persuaded the South Harris Estate to break up Borve Farm and re-allocate the land as crofts.
Croft 2 was allotted to Lachlan MacKillop. It subsequently passed to son Norman. Adjacent to the croft is the Smiddy, where Norman plied his trade. Following Norman’s death the croft passed to his youngest son Donald Alick (Splash). Donald Alick and his wife renamed it Burnside Croft, and it was here that HRH Prince Charles stayed when he visited Berneray in order to learn about the crofting way of life.
