The first occupants of 1 Hill Street were John Finlayson and Mary Graham. They had five children: William John, Mary, Bella, John and Annie. In due course the house passed to their son, John.

John Finlayson married Ann Gunn and the couple had two children: a boy, Kenneth, and a girl.
