The first occupants of 6 Hill Street, North Tolsta were Angus Murray and Catherine Graham. The couple had five children: Donald, Donald, Jessie Mary, John and Murdo. In 1905 Angus inherited 21b North Tolsta from his mother and 6 Hill Street passed to William Macleod.

William Macleod was newly married to Margaret Macdonald and they went on to have six children: two girls and four boys. In due course the house passed to their son, Murdo Macleod.

Murdo Macleod never married and, after his death, the house passed to his brother.
