53 Hill Street, North Tolsta was originally a cottars house at 53 North Tolsta.

Kenneth Macleod and Mary Morrison lived there, as cottars, prior to the property being feued off from the croft and re-named 53 Hill Street, North Tolsta. The couple had five children: Donald, Kate, Christina, John and Donald. Mary was widowed in 1910. In 1921 her widowed sister died and she took in her sons, Colin and Murdo.
