The first occupants of Hillside cottage, North Tolsta were Donald Campbell and Catherine Maclean. The couple had two children. In due course the house passed to their son, John.

John Campbell married Agnes Maciver, but they had no children. In due course the house was sold.

The house was bought by a couple from Stornoway. They sold it to a woman from Harris.

The woman from Harris sold the house to its present occupiers.
