4 Tong was created in 1850 when 3 & 4 Tong was split by John Campbell. The first occupant of 4 Tong was Donald Macdonald of Coll, and his wife, Jane Mackenzie of 7 Aird Tong. The couple were both dead by 1906. It wasn't until 1914 that 4 Tong passed to their son, Angus.

Angus Macdonald gave 4 Tong to his brother, Donald in 1924.

Donald Macdonald married Ann and 4 Tong passed to her after his death, in 1924. From her it passed to her son, Donald, in 1963.

Donald was living in America and sold the croft in 1965 to John MacCallum who kept it for a year.

In 1966 it was sold to Herbert W Evans.
