105958: 2 Glen Tolsta

2 Glen Tolsta was a newly lotted croft in 1843. The first occupants were Duncan Macmillan, Catherine Macmillan and their three children: John, Angus and Donald. The family had previously been living at 4a Old Lemreway. In due course 2 Glen Tolsta passed to their son, Angus.

Angus Macmillan merged 5 Glen Tolsta into his croft in 1853. He never married and in due course 2 Glen Tolsta passed to his nephew, John Macmillan.

John Macmillan of 4 Glen Tolsta was married to Kenina Macleod of 53 North Tolsta. The couple had been living at Hill Street, South and had at least four children, Catherine, Ann, Donald and Hector, before moving to  2 Glen Tolsta. Their fifth child, Ann was born the year of the move. Once settled at 2 Glen Tolsta they had a further two children: Angus, and Donald.  In due course 2 Glen Tolsta passed to their eldest son, Donald.

Donald Macmillan married Catherine Macleod of 6 North Tolsta and they had at least five of their six children there. On Wednesday the 16th of March 1921 the Great Gale hit Lewis and their house was destroyed and all their belongings were lost. The family moved to Bayhead, Stornoway when the children were still young.

In 1961 Tolsta Dairy obtained the croft and used it as pasture.
