107883: 17/18 North Tolsta

17/18 North Tolsta was a newly lotted croft in 1851. The first occupants were John Campbell and Christina Stewart; the couple had both been widowed prior to their marriage and had children from previous marriages. The family had been living at 17 Old South Tolsta.

In 1853 John lost the croft, due to distilling illegal whiskey, and the family became cottars at 2a North Tolsta: John's son, Donald's croft.

At this point, after being in existence for only two years, the croft was split into two crofts, 17 and 18 North Tolsta. The first tenants of the split crofts were both called Murdo Maciver.
