67359: 5 Ruisgarry (Beasdaire)

5 Ruisgarry was created in the 1850 relotting of Ruisgarry by the Harris Estate. It lies within the area Beasdaire, a name which is believed to derive from Old Norse, either bolstadhar or bolstaor meaning a place where cattle are housed or homestead. The first tenant was Donald MacKillop. He emigrated to Cape Breton during the early 1870s, passing the croft to nephew Alexander MacKillop. It then passed to his son John MacKillop.

Following John’s death the croft passed to Duncan MacLeod.
