42351: Aline Forest, Aline

Aline Forest sits on both sides of the Stornoway to Tarbert road, just before Aline. It was planted with Skeena Pine and Sitka Spruce over the years from mid 1960s to early 1980s by the Forestry Commission using a local work force. This was no easy task as the area covered 625 hectares of varying terrain from mountainside to lochside.

In March 2006, Aline Forest was handed over from the Forestry Commission to Lochs community. It is now the largest community owned forest in Scotland.
