Iain Bòideach

John was the son of Donald MacDonald, Dòmhnall mac Iain mhic Sheumais from the Isle of  Eriskay and later Carinish. John was fostered, as was common at the time, on the Isle of Bute, so became known as Iain Bòideach.

It is therefore from John that the Boyds of North Uist are descended.
