109598: Norman Murray

Norman was the son of Angus Murray of Old Glen Tolsta. The earliest records of the family paying rent in Glen Tolsta date to 1830.

In 1842 all the residents of Old Glen Tolsta were cleared. Norman’s father returned to Tong, but two of his brothers obtained crofts in Old South Tolsta. It is not clear where he settled.

Norman emigrated, with his brothers, to Huron Township, Bruce County, Ontario in 1853. He is thought to have later emigrated to Australia and named his bush home “Tolsta”.

In some accounts his name is given as Kenneth or Donald.
