Eachann Alasdair Mhurchaidh Eachainn

Hector (1917-1940) was the son of Alexander Macdonald and Catherine Maclennan, 10 Tolsta Chaolais.

On 30 October 1935 he enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve under Service Number AX18631. His record indicated that he was 5ft 7 3⁄4 in with dark brown hair, grey eyes and a Fresh Complexion. He had a scar below his right knee. Hector was a Fisherman on Stornoway Registered Fishing Boats including SY1007 and SY361. He was Mobilised on 29 September 1938 and served in the Royal Navy in the Second World War. He served on HMS Victory, HMS Drake and aboard HMS Exmouth. He lost his life when HMS Exmouth was torpedoed and sunk off the north coast of Scotland with the loss of 190 serving crew members.

Hector is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial and the Tolsta Chaolais War Memorial.
