Janet (1833-1885) was the daughter of James Thomson and Mary Macaulay of 5 Old Coll. In 1851, during the croft re-lotting, the family obtained 52 Coll.

Janet married Murdo Maciver of 46 Coll. The couple settled at 46 Coll and they had seven children.
