Mary (born 1884) was the daughter of Angus Macleod and Margaret Stewart, cottars at 30 Back. The family later moved to  23 Vatisker, the maternal croft. Her mother died in 1904 and her father went on to marry Isabella Maclennan, 60 North Tolsta. Mary was a Teacher.

At Stornoway, in 1908, she married Kenneth Murray of Transvaal, South Africa and formerly of 30 Vatisker. Mary and Kenneth lived in Pretoria, Transvaal.
