According to oral tradition he is remembered as mac Domhnaill mhic Dhomhnaill Ruaidh – son of Donald son of Red Donald. The Murrays of Ness claim descent from the Gobha Gorm – Blue Blacksmith – who came to Lewis as a fugitive after an affray in Dornoch in Easter Ross in 1608.
