John (1796-1874) was the son of Malcolm Smith and Isabella Maclennan. By 1820 the family were living at 5 Buanish and in 1826 the family moved to 8 Tong to lived with his uncle. The family later obtained 2 Tong.
John married Isabella Macleod of 6 Aird Tong. The couple settled at 12 Old Gearraidh Ghuirm where they had the first of their four children.
In 1834 the couple obtained 18 Aird Tong
