Mairi Ruairidh Dhonnachaidh

Mary (1921-2021) was the daughter of Roderick Macdonald and Rebecca Morrison of 8 Balallan. There Mary spent her childhood with her five older siblings.  

At Gardener Street Church of Scotland, Glasgow,  in 1951 she married William Sydney Evans, a schoolmate from Balallan. Married life took them to Australia but some time after the sudden death of her husband at a comparatively young age Mary and her son returned to Lewis and her home village in 1966. Mary found employment at Alginate Industries factory in Keose.

Mary was an active member of Kinloch Historical Society and carried out much research on their behalf. 

In later life after a brief spell on the mainland Mary moved to supported accommodation in Stornoway.  She died shortly after her one hundredth birthday.
