Douglas Alexander (1920-1987) was a son of Arthur Charles Aldis and Fanny Priscilla Witt from London.

In Winchester, Hampshire, in 1946, he married Helen Macritchie, 9 Church Street, Stornoway. Douglas and Helen settled in Southsea, Portsmouth and they had three children.

Douglas served in the Royal Canadian Navy in the Second World War as a War Correspondent.
