2724: Donald Macdonald

Donald (1850-1927) was a son of John MacDonald and Margaret Macdonald and came from 11 Geshader. He was a shoemaker and people came from as far away as Harris to have their shoes made. Donald was later joined by his sons, Donald and Peter also shoemakers.
At Uig, in 1881, he married Margaret Macritchie, 7 Aird, Uig. Donald and Margaret lived at 11 Geshader and they had eleven children.
Donald was widowed in 1908 and in 1923 moved to 1 Geshader.
Some domestic documents and a collection of his <<20526##cobbler's tools>> are housed in the Uig Museum at Timsgarry.
