45198: Catherine Mackay

Catherine (born 1750) was born in Shinness, a daughter of Thomas Mackay, a minister of the parish. She married Donald Matheson, landowner in Shinness, and had a family of twelve. Their second surviving son James Matheson co-founded Jardine Matheson & Co in China in the 1830s and, returning to Britain in 1842, subsequently bought the Isle of Lewis.
