Iain Iain Mhurchaidh

John (born 1887) was a son of John Macdonald and Chirsty Maclean, 22 Valtos.

He served in both World Wars. In the First World War he was a private with the Royal Highlanders of Canada and was wounded in action in France Sept 1918. During the Second World War he was a seaman with the Royal Navy.

John was married to Mary Mackenzie, 4 Gravir, in Paisley in February 1918 and lived in Glasgow:

At St. George's U.F Church Paisley on 15th February, by Rev.Gavin J Tait, M.A, Pte. John Macdonald, Canadian Highlanders, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Macdonald, Valtos, Uig to Mary, second daughter to Murdo Mackenzie, Gravir, Stornoway.

They were both home in Gravir in November 1918, perhaps convalescing, when Mary died of influenza in the epidemic.
